The Natural Art of the Pick-up

Tyler Durden

It’s easy to hate TD.

It’s easy to blast him full of holes, since Neil’s book exposed his manipulative and frighteningly cold dark side.

But, I will say this about my old wingman…he helped me tremendously.

Would I ever work with him again? Definitely not. Can’t trust him.

Did he help me? You bet he did…and he tirelessly helped a lot of guys. I witnessed it.

He exaggerates like no one I’ve ever known. His obsession is power. He wants to be the best, and he wants to rule the dating scene. His company, Real Social Dynamics, is an amalgam of younger guys who used to be nerds and who are now trying to be cool. It was that way in 2004, and I’s bet the ranch that it’s that way now.

Should you buy or work with RSD? Sure you should. If their pricing and offer work for your timing and wallet, I am sure they can help you.

But, should you believe everything they say? I wouldn’t, and I don’t.

TD’s great (and naive) obsession was to crack some code, and find a “blueprint” that would enable him to get any girl he wanted, at any time. I can recall him saying something like this numerous times:

“Steve, we just need more routines, more stuff to say, to just stimulate the girls for long enough so that we can get them back home”

Scary. But, I don’t honestly believe he feels this way today. His challenge underscores a challenge I think a LOT of the younger guys experience when they arrive in the community.

What is one of the largest symptoms of massive insecurity and fear? A desperate need to control. A lot, a lot, a lot of younger guys arrive carrying that baggage around.

TD took it to the extreme. He would attempt to convince others that he was as good as he truly wanted to be. His ASF archive is filled with posts and reports that grossly exaggerate his skills and abilities.

The pity about it is that TD was (and probably still is…) VERY GOOD. He didn’t need to exaggerate. I saw him do things socially that I could never do. But, his insecurity and neediness drove him to exaggerate his already really good skills…which undermined any legitimacy he might have had.

I hear that he’s turned a corner, and is living a more balanced life these days. I hear that he’s less needy and controlling. I hear that he no longer manipulates others.

I hope it’s true.
