The Natural Art of the Pick-up

PUAs

I used to be a PUA (Pick-Up Artist). My name was Playboy, and along with Mystery, Style, Papa and Herbal, helped co-found “Project Hollywood” in January, 2004.

I’ve met a lot of pick-up artists over the years, and worked with the best. I’m no longer in “the game”, as I now have a girlfriend and have moved on. But, I know the best, worked with the best, and was one of the best…

Since Neil’s book “The Game” was released in Sept 2005, we’ve had an influx of newer PUAs who are capitalizing on the popularity of the community. The problem with this is that many of these guys are working in a vacuum. No one actually knows if they are any good or not. Can they practice what they preach? Do they even preach anything helpful at all?

The great thing about “Project Hollywood” was that we were all on display. If you had “game”, everyone would know it. If you didn’t, that too would be clear (though we would then try to help you…).

So, what I’ve done in this section is to provide an honest review of the PUAs that I know and have seen and worked with. These guys are good. If they aren’t on the list here, I cannot vouch for them because they are either new on the scene, or unvetted. In other words, they may have skills, but I’m not aware of it.

Here is the current list:

Mystery Mystery – Mystery is the best pick-up artist in the world. He is far better than anyone could possibly be. He has studied this art, and broken it down into a science that is taught to other guys. I, and many others like me, owe much of what we offer to him. No one, not even Neil Strauss or David DeAngelo, has even come close to discovering and experiencing what Mystery has. The man is a machine. Problem is, that’s a double-edged sword…If you want to be a pick-up artist, save your money and work with Mystery himself. Read More…

Neil Strauss Neil Strauss – Neil Strauss, aka Style, is the author of “The Game”, as well as the follow-up book, “Rules of The Game”. Neil and I lived together at Project Hollywood for most of 2004. Neil’s strength is flirting and attraction. He’s weak though at approaching. In fact, we (we, meaning the RSD guys and I) would often invite him out with us, and he’d always decline. We eventually chalked it up to him being intimidated by the intensity with which we approached socializing. I constantly saw Neil with girls. He’s good…in fact, he’s very good. Read More…

David DeAngelo David DeAngelo – David D, as he is mostly called, is a name you’ve probably heard of before. He’s the most visible “guru” in the dating advice for men community. I like David, and feel he has made some tremendous impact in the scene. His “Double Your Dating” ebook is a great book for a beginner and one that I highly recommend. I read it years ago, and was able to apply a number of the techniques he describes in my dating life right away. I also watched his advanced DVDs a number of years ago, and found them to be helpful also. Read More…

Tyler Durden Tyler Durden – It’s easy to hate TD. It’s easy to blast him full of holes, since Neil’s book exposed his manipulative and frighteningly cold dark side. But, I will say this about my old wingman…he helped me tremendously. Would I ever work with him again? Definitely not. Can’t trust him. Did he help me? You bet he did…and he tirelessly helped a lot of guys. I witnessed it. He exaggerates like no one I’ve ever known. His obsession is power. He wants to be the best, and he wants to rule the dating scene. Read More…

Papa Papa – Papa is the executive branch of Real Social Dynamics (RSD). He is also the guy who invited me to join him, Mystery and Style at Project Hollywood back in Nov 2003. I’ll never forget the scene. We were dining at “Mustang Sally’s” near Penn Station in Manhattan. He sat me down after dinner and made his pitch to join him in LA, beginning in January. I was floored. I knew I had had a good seminar/workshop with these guys, but this invitation was not expected. He used every trick I knew he had. NLP, Future Adventure Projections and just “plowing through” my resistance. Read More…

Herbal Herbal – Herbal, or HerbalT, or Ty, was the fifth and final PUA to sign-on at Project Hollywood. He’s a younger guy, who found himself embroiled in the “Katya” controversy with Mystery after working as Mystery’s business manager. Here’s what happened. Ty was never very good off of a cold approach, but he did excel as a wingman or within a social circle. He’s a very laid-back, naturally engaging, funny guy. He’s independent, and he’s not one to play by the social rules and norms of life. Frankly, he was my favorite of the other 4 guys in the house. Read More…

How to Pick Up Girls Barry Kirkey – Extramask – 26 – I had always wondered where Neil Strauss had somehow come up with the name “Extramask”, for his book The Game. Well, I asked Barry Kirkey just that on my interview with him in the spring of 08. Apparently, Extramask was a name Barry used prior to his more popular name “26″. You see, Barry lost his virginity at the age of 26, and true to Barry-form, he used that as his online moniker, and his eventual name with RSD (Real Social Dynamics). Read More…

Cameron Teone Cameron Teone – Cameron Teone, aka “The One”, is an old buddy of mine from Project Hollywood. He and I were wings in the earlier days of ProHo, and at one time, pulled girls back to the mansion 4 nights in a row. Even Neil Strauss was impressed. If you ever meet Cameron, be sure to have him do his Mystery impression for you. It will be very funny, AND it will save you the $9000 it costs to see Mystery in person. Read More…

Christian Hudson Christian Hudson – Christian Hudson is a NYC buddy of mine who teaches guys social skills in the field, while also offering a range of other products and programs designed to help you cultivate a powerful social personality. I was introduced to Christian by a mutual friend, and I’ve been a fan of his ever since. Now, I cannot vouch for his approach skills – as I’ve never seen them – BUT, I do see the results of his approaches and social circle intelligence. Read More…

Scot McKay Scot McKay – Scot McKay is too cool and normal to call himself a PUA. In fact, he would scoff at the idea. It’s beneath him. You know what? He’s right. I have never formally “met” Scot McKay, but he’s become one of my better friends in this community as we share nearly an identical philosophy. We are also the only 2 guys that I’m aware of that are in long-term relationships. He’s married, and I live with my girlfriend. That alone makes him more qualified than most other coaches to help guys. I would be very suspicious of a dating coach who is single, frankly. Read More…
