Pick Up Lines

Being a former Master “Pick Up Artist” (I laugh as I type that), I soundly vouch for pick up lines. But, I can also provide a strong sense of caution too.

Pick up lines can be a great way to begin a conversation with a woman. They can also be cheesy, obnoxious and rude. So, first things first - what’s the right attitude to own when using a pick up line?

A playful, confident (dare I say…cocky & funny?) attitude when using pick up lines is mandatory. Allow a little smirk and gleam in your eye just so the woman doesn’t take you TOO seriously.

First, lets list some cheesy pick up lines…for fun (in other words, don’t EVER use any of these):

Cheesy Pick Up Lines

Girl, you better have a license, cuz you are driving me crazy!

Nice dress - it would look great on my floor!

Did you fart? Because you blew me away

Was that an earthquake or did u just rock my world?

Do you have any raisins? No? How about a date?

I have more, but that’s enough. Get the point? If you ever use one of these, don’t expect to have good results AT ALL.

Remove these from your repertoire! They are insulting and useless! (But, good for a laugh….)

Good Pick Up Lines

Good pick up lines are more subtle and (usually) less direct. When I coach guys 1-on-1, I will sense which of the variety of techniques I teach would be best for his unique personality.

A stronger personality might benefit from a direct approach.

Someone a bit more shy might benefit from an opinion opener.

A guy who is a bit cocky could use my teaser opener to great effect.

I teach 4 basic ways to begin a conversation with a woman:

The environmental/situational opener
The teaser opener
The direct approach
The opinion opener

These aren’t really “lines” per se, but are more techniques or skills. In this day and age, you need more than a line to engage a woman properly.

In this article, I will only focus on the most popular of these skills, the opinion opener:

Pick Up Lines: The Opinion Opener

This technique was made popular by my friends and I in Neil Strauss’ book “The Game”. It’s a very skillful and intelligent pick up technique. But, it takes some practice to truly “get” it.

I want to caution you about this skill, or any high-level pick up artist skill you may come across - use it CAREFULLY.

The opinion opener is where you engage a woman - or a group of women (GREAT for groups) - with a question that you need “female input” on.

A social rule in our culture, which this skill exploits, is that men don’t really understand women and that we need more of female input into our lives. Ask any woman that question, and she will OFTEN agree.

This technique USES that. We’re approaching them desiring their opinion on a certain topic. A great topic to use is relationships.

The structure that an opinion opener follows is this:

Question (I need a female opinion on…)
Story (give us the backstory)
Twist (then, a little drama at the end to really spice it up)

This 3-part structure is ESSENTIAL. The twist at the end (easily the most overlooked part of this technique that most guys aren’t using) is imperative as it cements the REASON why you needed their input in the first place. The twist makes this situation you’re inquiring about IMPORTANT.
