Quote of the Week: Walt Whitman
A little prose from the “Sweaty-Toothed Madman” himself…
Anyone remember what movie that line is from btw?
Walt is my favorite. He is the hero of the American Dream. Not the one we are currently shoving down the world’s throats. No, the one that I choose to believe in – that all men are created equal (& women…my girlfriend reads this you know) and that we are entitled to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
My volume of his famed “Leaves of Grass” is creased and bent in millions of ways right by my bed. I’ve read it on trains & planes, at Yankee games, while in church, while on the subway…sitting in a park on a cooling fall day…
He’s the finest representation of being oneself – at least in the American lexicon. He valued the individual over anything, seeing that as the greatest manifestation of love and life.
I personally think being ones true self – full autonomy – is THE only way to attract the right women into lasting, loving relationships.
I realize that may seem a bit far-fetched, but I’ll stand by that any day of the week.
This week’s selection is from his poem entitled “To You”.
I remember when I became interested in improving my dating life, I realized one day that I needed to meet more women. That’s when I began to seek help with approaching them.
In New York, we are surrounded by women everywhere we go – and the idea of just letting them pass me by became too criminal a few years ago…so I decided I’d learn how to Carpe Diem and approach them…
And the rest, as they say, is history.
This quote reflects that same belief, and it’s applicable to you at any stage of your development.
Here goes:
Stranger, if you passing meet me and desire to speak to me, why should you not speak to me? And why should I not speak to you?
I think he sums up here the truth of it – why should we not meet each other? Why should we be so separate?
Why, if you see someone you’d like to know (a woman, for example), should you NOT approach her and meet her?
For no good reason, that’s why…
